Authors' Review Authors' Review
- Are the rules and terms of submission easy to find?
The Registration Terms and Terms of Service are both available
from a drop down menu from every main page of the site.
The direct links are http://www.snitchfiction.net/tos/
and http://www.snitchfiction.net/cgi-bin/stories/members.cgi?action=regterms,
respectively.
- Do you supply a beta reader for authors?
No. Authors are responsible for their own story content
and editing.
- Are you polite about rejecting fics?
As Snitch Fiction is an automated, open archive, we do not
reject any stories out of hand. For more information about
archive policies on quality control, visit http://www.snitchfiction.net/help/#I.4.
The only instance where a fic will be later rejected from
the archive by the Admin will be if it violates our TOS
or is posted by someone who is not an eligible member (underaged
poster, etc.).
- Do you remove author's notes or copyright notices without
asking the author first?
No. While Snitch Fiction ammends a general disclaimer at
the foot of every story, authors have total control over
adding any additional disclaimers and story notes in the
body of their fic.
- Do you ever archive fics without permission?
No! Only authors archive their stories, when they want and
how they want.
- Are you prompt about removing fics at an author's request?
This has been a matter of confusion for some members so
I'm glad it's a question brought up here =).
Due to an administrative screw-up (that would be me), individual
authors can't delete their story files immediately. This
capability will be restored as soon it's been re-written
into the base scripts (I accidentally deleted the new version
I wrote that allowed it).
However, authors have the ability to delete their stories
themselves, immediately, by editing them to be titled 'DELETE
ME' and erase all story text. In this way an author can
instantly yank a story from the archive if they so desire.
When the author notifies the Admin of a 'DELETE ME' request,
the Admin will remove the empty file ASAP, hopefully within
48 hours. If the author doesn't email Admin to request a
DELETE ME, then those stories will be removed whenever convenient/
the Admin notices them in the story index.
We are working on this one so it's less confusing and more
convenient.
- What is your plagiarism policy...do you investigate
or do you take a complainant at their word?
We have not had any plagarism reports as yet (may we never
have any!). However, any plagarism reports will be investigated
on the basis of the information provided. For example, if
a member were to report a plagarized story and provided
a link to the original source material (posted to ML, another
archive, whatever) we would research the dates these materials
came on line, interview interested parties, etc. as needed.
- Do you update at least once a month?
Again, this is under the control of the authors, not the
Admin. But they seem to be updating every few minutes! =)
Admin updates to site maintenance, features, etc. are reported
at Snitch Fiction's live journal: http://www.livejournal.com/~snitchfiction/.
- Do you make it possible for readers to leave feedback?
We are still investigating the best options for on-site
system review methods and hope to bring a working feedback
option to the archive soon.
In the meantime, authors have the option to display their
email address and Instant Messenger s/ns in their member
profile page and in the body of their individual stories.
Readers can always comment via an email link if the author
choses to provide one.
- Is your location stable, or do you move frequently?
So far we have been! We had a few shaky days on bandwidth
when we first opened, but that seems to be settled in now.
We are still a very 'young' archive but are committed
to allowing authors as much control as we can in posting
and modifying their stories. We hope that readers can
also have a good experience with our simple layout and
easy to use navigational-interface.

Reader review Reader review
- Is the site attractive?
It's very clean and easy to understand.
- Is the site easy to navigate? (can you get to all the
main sections from every page, or do they rely on the 'back'
button an awful lot?)
It is easy to navigate.
- How selective is the archive? (Are you likely to find
a good story?)
Not selective at all. There is a huge range of quality here.
- Are they a specialty (ship or genre centric) or general
(only ratings restrictions) archive?
General.
- Is it easy to navigate within multi-chaptered stories?
Actually, all stories are on one html page, which means
authors of particularily long stories may choose to split
their story up into different files, and then put the addresses
in themselves.
- Are there search engines? Are they easy to use?
There is a search engine, which sorts by rating, pairing,
etc. However, you can't search by title or author through
the search. Once you find an author's story you can link
to their list of stories by clicking on their name.
- Are the indexes (author, title listings) clearly laid
out?
There really aren't any indexes.
- Are stories appropriately labelled if they require
warnings?
There is a disclaimer in regards to the possibility of explicit
content on the front page, and each story's rating is listed
in the summary.
- How many pages do you have to search through to get
to the first story?
Three.
- Is it easy to leave feedback?
If the author disclosed their email address, yes.
