Authors' Review

Authors' Review

  • Are the rules and terms of submission easy to find?
Yes. There is a standard list of links on every page.
  • Do you supply a beta reader for authors?
No, but if we think a story just needs a little grammar help, we'll tell the author.
  • Are you polite about rejecting fics?
We have a standardized rejection letter, which I think is polite.
  • Do you remove author's notes or copyright notices without asking the author first?
Yes and No. The site has standardized warnings about explicit content, and in regards to JKR's copyright of the original works. Disclaimers dealing with those subjects are replaced with ours, but we leave authors' notes such as thankyous and summaries intact.
  • Do you ever archive fics without permission?
    Definitely not.
  • Are you prompt about removing fics at an author's request?
    We try to be.
  • What is your plagiarism policy...do you investigate or do you take a complainant at their word?
    We would investigate.
  • Do you update at least once a month?
We update anywhere from 20 times in a day to a few times a month.
  • Do you make it possible for readers to leave feedback?
Yes. Email addresses are provided for readers to send private feedback, and we link to the author's forum on our EZboard at the bottom of each story.
  • Is your location stable, or do you move frequently?
We have never moved, but we would retain the domain name if we had to switch servers anyway.

Reader review

  • Is the site attractive?
Very simple, nice graphics, and just over all well done.
  • Is the site easy to navigate? (can you get to all the main sections from every page, or do they rely on the 'back' button an awful lot?)
    Easy to navigate.
  • How selective is the archive? (Are you likely to find a good story?)
I've found very good stories here and they have spelling and grammar rules guide lines.
  • Are they a specialty (ship or genre centric) or general (only ratings restrictions) archive?
    General.
  • Is it easy to navigate within multi-chaptered stories?
They lack a bit here. They need a way to get to a chapter other then hiting the next chapter button. I got to the 20th chapter in a story before I had to leave and when I got back I had to hit that damn button 19 foorkin times! They need some sort of pick a chap. a drop bar or something.
  • Are there search engines? Are they easy to use?
They have a very extensive search. Very easy to understand (see here - http://www.restrictedsection.org/cgi-bin/search.cgi).
  • Are the indexes (author, title listings) clearly laid out?
    Yes.
  • Are stories appropriately labelled if they require warnings?
Yes. [Editor's note: rs.org has recently installed password protection for all the stories on the site. Visit here for more information.]
  • How many pages do you have to search through to get to the first story?
You come in on the main page with the warnings and you click 'Stories by Author's Name' and you are at the story, or you can hit 'Search' and fill in the search form then click ok and see what it brings up.
  • Is it easy to leave feedback?
You have to register (it's free)
