Authors' Review

Authors' Review

  • Are the rules and terms of submission easy to find?
Yes. The front page has a prominent sidebar, with a link to “author options.” If you click on “Submit Application,” you will find an exhaustive explanation of the rules along with an application to become an author.
  • Do they supply a beta reader for authors?
Sorta. There is strong editorial control, and they say they will point out recurring errors if they reject a fic.
  • Are they polite about rejecting fics?
    Probably.
  • Do they remove author's notes or copyright notices without asking the author first?
It appears that they do not.
  • Do they ever archive fics without permission?
I believe that they do not. They specifically instruct authors not to post other people’s work without written permission.
  • Are they prompt about removing fics at an author's request?
    Unknown.
  • What is their plagiarism policy...do they investigate or do they take a complainant at their word?
They promise to summon the Furies and hound the offending author to the ends of the earth. Er, “Any work found to be this, will promtly be removed and author banned for life. We will also not accept authors who have previously done this.”
  • Do they update at least once a month?
    Yes.
  • Do they make it possible for readers to leave feedback?
They have a form at the bottom of each story (!)
  • Is their location stable, or do they move frequently?
    Probably stable.

Reader review

  • Is the site attractive?
They seem to be using a “professional” look. The site is well-organized, although there are some obvious inconsistencies from page type to page type.
  • Is the site easy to navigate? (can you get to all the main sections from every page, or do they rely on the 'back' button an awful lot?)
The site uses a lot of side menus, and is very easy to move around in.
  • How selective is the archive? (Are you likely to find a good story?)
This archive is fairly selective vis a vis story quality, and they are particularily strict about their ‘ship affiliations.
  • Are they a specialty (ship or genre centric) or general (only ratings restrictions) archive?
Harry & Hermione, Ginny & Draco, and Lily & James only.
  • Is it easy to navigate within multi-chaptered stories?
    Yes.
  • Are there search engines? Are they easy to use?
    Yes, and yes.
  • Are the indexes (author, title listings) clearly laid out?
Yes, and there is a list of the newest stories (color coded by ‘ship) on the front page.
  • Are stories appropriately labelled if they require warnings?
The stories are labelled with ratings, and there are warning pages for stories with adult content.
  • How many pages do you have to search through to get to the first story?
front page > [warning page] > story or
front page > fanfiction > [warning page] > story.
  • Is it easy to leave feedback?
    Yes.
