Authors' Review

Authors' Review

  • Are the rules and terms of submission easy to find?
I think so, they're linked on the archive mainpage.
  • Do they supply a beta reader for authors?
Yes, but few people have used the service.
  • Are they polite about rejecting fics?
I hope so! Usually, the reason for the rejection and ways to possibly fix the problem(s) are included with the rejection notice, encouraging the author to submit again when the guidelines are met.
  • Do they remove author's notes or copyright notices without asking the author first?
    Not that I recall.
  • Do they ever archive fics without permission?
    No.
  • Are they prompt about removing fics at an author's request?
Usually happens at the next update, whenever that may be. (The site is updated at least once a month).
  • What is their plagiarism policy...do they investigate or do they take a complainant at their word?
"Recently it was brought to my attention that a fanfiction archived on this site was no more than a book copied over with the names changed. This is plagiarism, plain and simple. And it is not welcomed on this site. I know that we are all borrowing characters from JK Rowling but please make sure that your storylines are your own and give citations for quotes and ideas where they are needed." You would have to give evidence that the story was plagiarized, and then an email is sent to the author of the story asking for their opinion on the charges.
  • Do they update at least once a month?
It always has been, since the site was created. But there's no set update day, so it's possible it wouldn't be if there were extreme circumstances, in which case an apology would probably be posted.
  • Do they make it possible for readers to leave feedback?
Yes, there is an EZboard for leaving reviews linked at the bottom of each fic.
  • Is their location stable, or do they move frequently?
Pretty stable. We did change URLs a few months ago, but the old one still works so we never had to change our links.

Reader review

  • Is the site attractive?
Nice, simple layout. Easy to read and well-organized.
  • Is the site easy to navigate? (can you get to all the main sections from every page, or do they rely on the 'back' button an awful lot?)
You can access the main page for each section from each page, but there are some problems with local (within a section) navigation.
  • How selective is the archive? (Are you likely to find a good story?)
Fluff ahoy! :D The stories I looked at seemed nice.
  • Are they a specialty (ship or genre centric) or general (only ratings restrictions) archive?
    Draco/Ginny 24/7.
  • Is it easy to navigate within multi-chaptered stories?
Er, no. But you can get to each individual chapter from the author index.
  • Are there search engines? Are they easy to use?
No search engine. This is a small archive, so a search engine isn't appropriate.
  • Are the indexes (author, title listings) clearly laid out?
Yes. There is an index by author, and the newest stories are noted on the index page.
  • Are stories appropriately labelled if they require warnings?
Individual stories are labelled with ratings.
  • How many pages do you have to search through to get to the first story?
homepage > the archive > author by letter > story.
  • Is it easy to leave feedback?
    Yes.
