Authors' Review

Authors' Review

  • Are the rules and terms of submission easy to find?
Not really. I had to poke a few links to find them.
  • Do they supply a beta reader for authors?
    No.
  • Are they polite about rejecting fics?
They don't preview stories; they do delete fics based on content.
  • Do they remove author's notes or copyright notices without asking the author first?
The author is in control of uploading their own stories, so no.
  • Do they ever archive fics without permission?
    No.
  • Are they prompt about removing fics at an author's request?
You have to remove your fics yourself.
  • What is their plagiarism policy...do they investigate or do they take a complainant at their word?
They have a detailed copyright policy outlined in their TOS, which requires evidence from a complainant.
  • Do they update at least once a month?
    Author-controlled uploading.
  • Do they make it possible for readers to leave feedback?
Yes. They also have email notification of reviews, which is convenient if you like to respond to feedback.
  • Is their location stable, or do they move frequently?
    Stable.

Reader review

  • Is the site attractive?
It's neatly presented. However, it offers the most annoying pop up ads I have ever seen.
  • Is the site easy to navigate? (can you get to all the main sections from every page, or do they rely on the 'back' button an awful lot?)
The story navigation is pretty straightforward, but it takes some poking to find anything else. (The non-story links are hidden in a drop-down menu).
  • How selective is the archive? (Are you likely to find a good story?)
It is a veritable garbage dump.
  • Are they a specialty (ship or genre centric) or general (only ratings restrictions) archive?
    General.
  • Is it easy to navigate within multi-chaptered stories?
    Yes.
  • Are there search engines? Are they easy to use?
Yes...but the results are somewhat gimpy.
  • Are the indexes (author, title listings) clearly laid out?
It's better to search by keyword or browse by fandom. There are so many authors and so many categories that the author browsing is a nightmare.
  • Are stories appropriately labelled if they require warnings?
Variable. That's an author responsibility. Since they don't allow NC17 fics anymore, some idiots might label their NC17s as R fics to keep them up.
  • How many pages do you have to search through to get to the first story?
front > books > Harry Potter > story
  • Is it easy to leave feedback?
    Yes.
