Sometimes it's hard to know where to publish your stories. Ever since fanfiction.net stopped archiving NC17 fanfiction, new Harry Potter fanfiction archives have been cropping up all over the ‘net. While it’s great to have so much selection, authors have to sometimes use archives that don't host the full range of their work.

In order to get authors and archives in touch with each other, we asked two sets of questions about archives: from the reader's viewpoint, and from the author's viewpoint. We hope these reviews will help authors find a home for their stories.

General Archives

General Archives

General archives have no restriction on pairings, genres or subject matter. They are a good choice for authors that like to jump from pairing to pairing. They may have ratings and/or age restrictions, and have varying levels of selectivity. Click on an archive name to read their review.

FAQ About the Review

FAQ About the Review

  • Who can review an archive?
Anyone can review! You may also review anonymously. You can even review your own site. (Although if you are reviewing your own site it would be sporting to let us know).
  • That's great! Where do I review a site?
You may find out how to review an archive here.
  • Does it have to be a site that's already been reviewed?
No, but it does have to be a site that accepts unsolicited Harry Potter fanfiction submissions. That is the only requirement to be included on this review.
  • Actually, I just want to let you know about an archive but I don't want to review it myself...
That's fine! You may email lightbringer (archive review editor), and she'll put that archive up for review.
  • How did my site get on this review?
Lightbringer tried to compile a list of archives that represented a wide range of ships. It might be that you were on the initial list, or that someone submitted your site later.
  • What do you do to prevent flames?
On the livejournal community, (where most reviews are submitted) anonymous comments are screened. This means that anyone who uses the option of anonymity will have their review double-checked before it is descreened. In addition, every review is verified against the archive before it is reprinted here.
  • Oh, you made a button for my site! I don't like it. Can I send you a different one?
Of course! Your banner just needs to be 88px wide by 33px high.
  • I noticed that some archives had multiple reviewers. How did you decide which quote to use?
Lightbringer only reviews a site if no one else did. She'd really prefer to not review any site since she's managing the reviews. Therefore she replaces her review if anyone comes along and reviews one she already did. If there is still more than one reviewer, and they are basically in agreement on a question, she selects the clearer answer. If there are conflicting opinions, she posts all of them. These decisions are made on a question-by-question basis.
  • Whoops! There's incorrect information in one of your reviews!
Sometimes archivists completely redo their site! That means that a link may be broken or there may be a significant policy change at a site. Email lightbringer and she'll correct the review after verifying the information.
  • I don't want my archive listed here.
We can remove your review, and change your status to "declined to be reviewed." Your basic information (address, name, etc.) will remain accessible to authors.
  • That's not what I meant.
That's so we avoid people spontaneously reviewing you in the future. ^_^
